Just wait until you turn into "Went to autogeek.net, spent $1000 buying a DA polisher, pads, water filtration system, microfiber towels, terry cotton towels, foam gun, foamers, wheel brush, tire brush, wax, polishing compounds, glazes, sealants, trim protection, wheel cleaner, tire cleaner, buckets with grit guards, etc."

Totally worth it. Totally a pain in the ass, and wallet.

yep... foam cannon, 20 different pads, 10 six inch, 10 five inch, both backing plates a 3" backing plate and pads for those hard to reach spots, da buffer, and electric power washer, sonax npt sealant, menzerna polishes 3 different types of vinyl dressings and leather cleaners and conditioners, microfiber towels, soap for the microfiber towels, grit guard for the wash buckets...... but my x3 is black and looking at it wrong will put a swirl or small scratch in it.

BE that guy, that Beetle looks badass. I'm the same way I use all kinds of products, 3 bucket method etc. my next door neighbors must look at me like WTF. They've got a G37 and Honda Accord coupe that both look like they last time they were washed were when they were dealer prepped on arrival.

Oh man, I have to say, my techniques of washing a car and the equipment I now use makes my car wash last 1 and a half hours. Damn you informed youtube videos of excruciating car care!

With the Reef blue, it looks so good after just a wash and dry, I hardly ever have to go further

Same here. After watching what seems like hours of /DRIVE Clean videos, it's usually a 1.5 - 2 hour wash, exterior only. Even then, it seems like I do a poor job.

Luckily, I have a friend with a mobile detailing business, and due to lack of time and wanting to give my friend business, he's coming over on Friday to give it a quick wash and wax before a photo shoot this weekend.

Do you use a grit guard in your bucket? Do you use detailing clay a couple time a year?

I haven't clayed it yet, but I've only had it for 2 months now. And what is grit guard? ._.

GLI hasn't been washed in 3 weeks. it now has a nice collection of dirt, bugs, rubber and mud all over the paint.

Hate me if you want, she still loves to haul ass!

also, she'll be clean tomorrow afternoon, I'm taking her to the dealer for a service!

A grit guard is a plastic screen device you place in the bottom of your car wash bucket that lets the dirt and grit settle to the bottom of the bucket when you put your wash mitts or rags in the bucket. Anyone who cares about their car's paint job will use them to prevent fine scratches and swirls on the paint. About $10-$15.00.
